Executive Elections

It’s time to pick next year’s executive team for UMS!   The application form is available here, and is due on Monday, March 21st at 5:00 P.M.  If you are interested in applying, please fill out the form and email it with your resume to info@utscmusic.com.

Executive positions include:

President

  • Responsible for overseeing general club operations
  • Official spokesperson for the club
  • Lead organizer for the club’s larger initiatives (e.g. creation of new ensembles)
  • Maintains communication with the ensemble leaders
  • Ensures that the club is functioning in a manner consistent with the club’s values and constitution
  • Direction, development and promotion of the overall objectives and goals of the club
  • Design posters, facebook banners, tv banners, and brochures for UMS events and initiatives

Vice President

  • Maintain documentation of the club’s operations throughout the year
  • Oversees club and ensemble recruitment
  • Management of club email
  • Coordinates merchandise sales (both semesters)

Secretary

  • Initiates communication via email with new club members
  • Records minutes during executive and general meetings
  • Assists Vice President to maintain documentation of the club’s operations throughout the year
  • Assists Vice President to strategize new ways to recruit members for UMS, and reach all the musicians on campus

Treasurer

  • Completes funding applications for events and initiatives
  • Maintains record of financial transactions
  • Signing officer on the UMS bank account
  • Assists in organization of our major fundraising projects (merchandise sales and singing telegrams)

Marketing Lead

  • Strategizes new ways to recruit members for UMS, and reach all the musicians on campus
  • Networks with other club leaders and community groups to look for opportunities for collaboration
  • Contacts advertising services (on- and off-campus) to promote UMS initiatives
  • Maintains the club’s online presence by regularly updating our facebook and twitter pages, and the UMS website

Events Coordinator (x4)

  • Organizes on‐campus events that provide members with opportunities for performance
  • Organizes off-campus performance trips to see professional musicians (TSO, musicals, etc.)
  • Organizes social events for our members (movie nights, end-of-term socials)

Want to show your love for music? UTSC Music Merchandise is now being sold! Come visit us during our table hours to drop off your completed form and money. Forms can be found on our website at here or picked up at table hours. Please enclose the exact amount within an envelope labelled “Merch” as we cannot guarantee that we will have change. Sales will be happening until Friday, March 11th. Our table hours for this week can be found under ‘Table Hours‘.

Hi everyone! Welcome back to campus! This week, you can find UMS in the Meeting Place at Club’s Week, recruiting new members and sharing info about the exciting events we have planned for this year. If you missed meeting us at our table, make sure you check out the opportunities we have available:

Join UMS!

Fill out this form to become a member of UMS, and get notified about all our concerts / trips / various shenanigans.  Currently, we’re planning a group trip to go see Wicked, looking for musicians to perform at our October coffee night, and recruiting for the UTSC music ensembles!  Also, merchandise sales will be starting soon!!

Join the UTSC Community Concert Band!

Do you play one of those instruments that you blow air through, or hit with sticks?  Yes!?  Then we want to know you!  Rehearsals are starting soon, so make sure you click here to sign up!  This semester we’re planning on doing a Halloween-themed concert on campus, and a Christmas concert at the lovely St. Francis Centre.

Join Vocomotive!

Don’t lie — we know you’ve all been watching an episode Glee and thought to yourself “one day, I hope to be cool enough to join an a capella choir.”  That day is now!  This student-run ensemble performs at various events around campus, and can be found serenading sweethearts during their popular Valentine’s Day Singing Telegram event.  Contact Jamie Li to schedule your audition.

Get a Credit for Making Music!

Yes you read that right! You can get course credit for being in the UTSC Concert Band, Concert Choir, String Orchestra, or Small Ensemble course.  Head on over to the Department of Arts, Culture and Media for the details.

  • Manages the Marketing & Communication team (the Social Media & Web Coordinator, Designer, and Recruitment Coordinator)

  • Oversees the marketing campaigns for all UMS events

  • Contacts advertising services (on- and off-campus) to promote UMS initiatives

  • Networks with other club leaders and look for opportunities for collaboration

 

Social Media & Web Coordinator

  • Maintains Twitter and Facebook feeds, and our website

  • Creates a strong online presence for UMS, ensuring our members are informed of our upcoming events, and feel involved in club activities

  • HTML knowledge not required, but is considered an asset

 

Designer

  • Design posters, facebook banners, tv banners, and brochures for UMS events and initiatives

  • Skilled in Adobe Photoshop

 

Recruitment Coordinator

  • Maintains club member database

  • Initiates communication via email with new club members

  • Organizes UMS presence at recruitment events

  • Strategizes new ways to recruit members for UMS, and reach all the musicians on campus

 

Events Lead

  • Organizes on‐campus events that provide members with opportunities for performance

  • Organizes off-campus performance trips to see professional musicians (TSO, musicals, etc.)

  • Organizes social events for our members (movie nights, end-of-term socials)

  • Manages a team of three event coordinators, who will assist with the above tasks

It’s that time of year to get your UTSC Music T-Shirts & Hoodies!  Walk the halls and represent music at UTSC.  T-shirts are $20 and sweaters are $30. To get your name / instrument / ensemble written on the back, add $3. Order forms can be picked up by the elevator on AA third floor. Forms can be dropped off at the table during UMS office hours, at rehearsals, or at Keely’s office (AA341). Please seal the order form and money in an envelope.

*Special Offer* If you are a member of UMS you can get a $5 discount on the sweaters by showing your membership card! Please note that you can only receive the discount during our hours in the Student Center, or by handing the order to an executive during any of the ensemble rehearsals.

Our New Website!

Hi everyone! Welcome to the new website for the UTSC Music Society (formally the UTSC Music Ambassadors Program). We’re the campus group that represents the ensembles at UTSC, and works to promote music opportunities at our school, and in the community.
